‘Mestalla és Etern collection’: Valencia CF – Real Sociedad

This poster draws inspiration from the Valencia CF team of the 1940s, when the vast majority of the squad hailed from the Basque Country

Valencia CF will take on Real Sociedad at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, at Mestalla. As part of the Club’s collaboration with Valencian artist Lawerta to pay tribute to the final season at our historic stadium, a commemorative poster has been created for the fixture.

The poster takes inspiration from Valencia CF in the 1940s, when the vast majority of the squad came from the Basque Country, with several players born in Donostia.

One of the poster’s protagonists is Ignacio Eizaguirre, a three-time LaLiga champion (1941–42, 1943–44 and 1946–47), winner of the 1949 Copa del Rey and the 1948–49 Copa Eva Duarte, and a two-time ‘Zamora’ Trophy winner (1944 and 1945). Eizaguirre spent nine seasons with Valencia CF and made 18 appearances for Spain.

The other is Silvestre Igoa, one of the Club’s great players, who spent nine seasons wearing the Valencia CF shirt and formed part of the legendary ‘delantera eléctrica’. He won LaLiga titles in 1942, 1944 and 1947, as well as the 1949 Copa del Rey — some of the first major honours in the Club’s history. Igoa also represented Spain at the 1950 World Cup in Brazil alongside Puchades.

The ‘Col.lecció Mestalla és Etern’ celebrates the history and culture of our beloved stadium through a series of posters created for matches played at Camp de Mestalla, both in LALIGA EA SPORTS and, potentially, the Copa del Rey. Each design will bring a different moment from the stadium’s rich history to life.
